Everything You Need To Know About Spur Gears

July 20, 2022

Gears and shafts have completely changed the industrial scene forever. Without the different types of gears and splined shafts, the progress made in the industrial area in recent decades would not have been possible.

It won't be an exaggeration to say that gears and splines are the backbones of any machinery. Without effective torque transfer, machines cannot effectively function. Spur gears are the most common type used across industries. The gears need to be strong and perfectly cut for them to perform well. Sourcing gears only from dependable names like True Gear & Spline Ltd. is highly recommended to guarantee quality.

All you need to know about spur gears

Spur type of gear is extensively used in motors and machinery. Its design makes it ideal for controlling the rotation speed. Whether for controlling the speed of machinery or for transferring the torque from one shaft to another, this gear is perfect. Also known as the toothed wheel, this gear gets its name because the teeth are set up along parallel axes. Toothed wheels are perfect for achieving large gear ratios.

This gear is mainly classified into two types:

Internal: Internal gears are straight-cut gears with teeth cut on the inside. What separates internal gears from their external counterpart is that two internal gears cannot mesh together.

External: The distinctive characteristic of this gear is that the teeth are cut on the outside and not inside. These gears can perfectly mesh with both internal and external gears. Two external gears rotate in the opposite direction when meshed together. Meanwhile, the combination of internal and external gear rotates in the same direction.

True Gear & Spline Ltd. uses CNC machines to manufacture different types of gear. We never compromise on quality and always deliver before deadlines. Apart from the spur, we also manufacture and supply a wide range of helical and bevel gears.
